UbiQ is a spin-off of the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI). We aim at therapeutic modulation of the ubiquitin system. The ubiquitin system is widely expected to be as least as promising as the phosphorylation system. Currently about 25% of all pharmaceutical research expenditure is aimed at interfering with phophorylation with kinase inhibitors. However, in contrast to the kinase field, only a few research tools are available in the ubiquitin field. With our proprietary technology platform we can syntehsize virutally any reagent to study the ubiquitin system, including ubiquitin conjugates for pharmaceutical high-throughput assays. Starting December 2010, UbiQ's reagents are marketed around the world, generating a solid revenue stream.

Next to our reagent business, UbiQ is initiating drug development programs in oncology and neurodegeneration, based on a set of proprietary ubiquitin proteasome activators. For more information see: http://www.ubiqbio.com/

Carciovascular diseases represent the major cause of mortality in western societies. In at least 50% of the patients, diminished blood supply to the heart, i.e. cardiac ischemia marks the first step of the disease. If left untreated, cardiac ischemia will eventually lead to heart failure. Based on its proprietary and patented set of biomarkers, BioTxs will develop a blood based diagnostic test to serve the unmet medical need of diagnosing early stage cardiac ischemia. The BioTxs diagnostic test will also enable monitoring individuals at risk and evaluation of therapy response in patients already undergoing treatment.

Upon company maturation, BioTxs will develop novel therapeutic agents for cardiovascular disease. The company has identified compounds that promote blood vessel formation and therefore will be highly valuable therapeutic agents. These compounds will fill the product pipeline after the product launch of the diagnostic test. The impact of BioTxs diagnostics and therepeutics on daily clinical practice will be tremendous. The result: substantial improvement in diagnostic and treatments for patients and major cuts in public health care expenditure. Financial resources of 3.8M€ are sought to fund the company's two year diagnostics development program. Prospective clinical study to evaluate the diagnostic test is scheduled to start Q3 2011.
