“On the move in research and patents: where and when can you rely on the research exemption?”
11.30 - 12.45
Waterfront

Carine van den Brink (LLM MSc, Partner) and Anke Heezius (LLM MSc, Partner) have gained expertise in this complex field of patent law from their day to day law practice. You will get a bird eyes view on the essential questions that this topic raises for companies and universities in practice. Focus will be on the Netherlands, however, relevant differences between countries will be highlighted.

After this Workshop, you will be able to judge if you may benefit from the research exemption, and how risks can be minimized.

LS Legal offers four one-hour-free-advice vouchers for the first 4 subscribers to the workshop

There are already more than four subscribers. The vouchers will be assigned during the workshop.

Speakers

Carine van den Brink

Carine received her law degree in 1989 and a medical degree in 1987. She worked for the law firm Stibbe from 1990 to 1997 after which she joined Pharming as senior legal counsel and secretary to the board. In 2002 she started her own law firm, entirely focused on companies and institutes in the life science.

Carine’s combination of legal experience, medical background and excellent knowledge of the biotech markets gives her advice an invaluable practical utility. She has vast expertise in licensing contracts, spin-out constructions, equity financing of technostarters, operational contracts such as clinical trials and manufacturing and strategic collaborations (R&D contracts, partnerships, etc.). In addition to well-known Dutch and foreign biotech companies, Carine’s clients include knowledge institutes such as universities and teaching hospitals, as well as their spin-offs. Many of her clients retain her services as outside, in-house legal counsel.

She is a member of the supervisory board of Profibrix B.V. and member of the NGI pre-seed committee. Carine lectures at the University of Leiden and at the NIABA master class.
