19-05-2009 - "Pioneering in Biotech: The making of Genzyme‬‪"

At BioBusiness Event 2009 Dick Meijer will give a keynote presentation titled "Pioneering in Biotech: The making of Genzyme‬‪".

 

Dick Meijer is Vice President – General Manager of Japan and Asia Pacific for LSD Therapeutics. He is a Dutch national and has been relocated to Genzyme head office in Cambridge, US in April 2002 to assume initially the position of Vice President – General Manager of Asia Pacific. In the beginning of 2007 he was appointed in his current position.

 

In 1991, Dick Meijer was instrumental in the establishment of Genzyme Europe BV., in the Netherlands. Before his relocation to the United States, he served as Vice President – General Manager for Scandinavia, Finland, Benelux, Greece and Portugal and was based at Genzyme European Headquarters in the Netherlands.

 

In that role, he provided leadership in the European introduction of Ceredase and Cerezyme for the treatment of patients suffering from Gaucher disease. 

Additional responsibilities included market development in the Central and Eastern European countries for almost 3 years. 

He is the co-founder of the Dutch Society for Medical Biotechnology Industry, Biofarmind and was chairman of the working group on Orphan Drugs in Biofarmind.

 

He is member of the Board of Directors of various Genzyme subsidiaries around the world. He studied International Management at the CEDEP, Centre d’Education d’European Permanente in Fontainebleau in France and INSEAD in Singapore.

 

He has more than 30 years experience in the health care industry i.e., medical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology with a sound track record for commercializing medical, therapeutic and innovative biotechnology products, as well as building local country infrastructure, partnerships, distributions agreements in Europe and Asia.

 

Before joining Genzyme in 1991, Dick Meijer served in various sales, marketing and senior management positions with GD Searle, Boehringer Mannheim and Baxter in the Netherlands
