The Vasculuminator, blood vessel imaging system to facilitate vessel punctures
The Vasculuminator is a practical blood vessel viewing system, based on near-infrared (NIR) trans-illumination. It has been developed to improve the procedure of puncturing veins in small children, which is a difficult task to perform. The vasculuminator is successfully clinically introduced in the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital (WKZ) of the University Medical Centre in Utrecht. In a clinical study was shown that the failure rate of a puncture for blood withdrawal dropped from 13% to 2%. Clinical studies on other applications are ongoing.
A new prototype has been developed and will become commercially available due to a cooperation of the UMC Utrecht and Medavinci Health Care Services.
